ERGO NEXT specializes in business insurance for daycares
Insurance for daycare centers and in-home daycares is usually several types of policies to help protect you, your business and your employees from different types of business risks. Your coverage may include:
Daycare General Liability insurance

Daycare General Liability insurance

Protection for damage to other people's property and injuries to non-employees
General liability insurance is required in most states for in-home daycares and daycare centers to help cover a range of accidents and business risks. It could help with financial protection if someone other than an employee gets hurt, or if you’re held responsible for damaging property that doesn’t belong to you.

general liability can help you pay for:

Medical expenses
Damage to property you don’t own
Legal fees and judgments
Employment practices liability
Professional Liability (E&O)

Professional Liability (E&O)

Coverage against business mistakes and claims of negligence
Professional liability insurance (also known as errors and omissions) helps you defend yourself if you’re accused of making a mistake that causes someone to lose money. For example, if you are accused of misplacing forms which list confidential health information about the children in your care, it could help cover related expenses to defend yourself.

professional liability can help you pay for:

Professional negligence (actual or alleged)
Legal defense costs
Legal judgments
Workers’ Compensation insurance

Workers’ Compensation insurance

For employee work-related injury and illness
Workers’ compensation insurance is required in most states if you have employees. And for daycare centers, most states mandate this type of coverage before you can get your operations license. If an employee suffers a work-related illness or injury, workers’ comp insurance could help pay for medical care and lost wages. Business owners can also choose to add business owner’s coverage to their business policy to protect themselves.

workers compensation can help you pay for:

Medical costs
Lost wages during recovery
Employer liability
Commercial Property

Commercial Property

For protection over the business contents of your physical space
Commercial property insurance could help protect all of the business equipment you use inside your daycare – toys, furniture, supplies, kitchen equipment, etc. – as well as the structure of the building itself. After a covered event such as a burst water pipe, fire, theft or vandalism property insurance could help with costs or repairs. Property coverage could also provide lost income and other additional expenses if you have to close temporarily for repairs.

commercial property can help you pay for:

Damaged equipment and supplies
Lost income and operating expenses
Structural damage to the space you use for work
Business Owner’s Policy (BOP insurance)

Business Owner’s Policy (BOP insurance)

Financial help after non-employee injuries and property damage
BOP insurance combines commercial general liability insurance and commercial property insurance at a price that’s often more affordable than buying two separate policies.

business owners policy can help you pay for:

Customer injuries (a.k.a bodily injury)
Property damage
Business income interruption
Equipment breakdown coverage

How much does daycare insurance cost?

Premiums for commercial daycare centers and home daycares are more affordable than you might think. The exact price you’ll pay for your business insurance cost depends on a number of factors, including:

  • The type of work you do.
  • The number of children you have.
  • Your business location.
  • Your number of employees.
  • Annual revenue.
  • The coverage limits and deductible you choose.
  • Your insurance claims history.

The best way to know for sure what you’ll pay is to check our prices. In about 10 minutes you’ll see the exact cost of tailored coverage for your business.

How can insurance for home daycares and daycare centers help your business?

You might need insurance for daycare centers to help your business:

  • Get licensed. Most states require daycare liability insurance before you can get your credentials for a preschool, early learning program or childcare program.
  • Start caring for children. State or local governments might require active business insurance — usually general liability or workers’ comp – before you can open your doors.
  • Repair or replace property you own or rent. Get help with costs if a covered event damages your work supplies, equipment, furniture and fixtures, or the building you lease or own.
  • Hire employees. Most states require workers’ comp insurance for small businesses with employees.

How does business insurance protect daycares?

Our commercial and home daycare insurance packages are designed to protect your business from a variety of childcaring risks and help you save money to grow your business. You can be protected from financial losses related to:

Damage to someone’s property

A child kicks a ball in your outdoor play area and shatters a neighbor’s window. The general liability coverage in your insurance package could help pay for a replacement.

Accidents that hurt someone

A child chips a tooth when falling from your playground equipment. Your general daycare liability insurance coverage could also come into play here by helping to pay for medical costs and legal fees.

Professional mistakes

Your daycare accidentally serves a snack that contains an allergen and a child has to receive treatment. Professional liability insurance helps you defend yourself if you’re accused of making a mistake that causes someone to lose money.

Workplace injuries

An employee strains their back while picking up a toddler. Workers’ compensation insurance with business owner’s coverage can help cover medical bills and lost wages. Workers’ comp is usually required by law if you have employees.

Injuries and damage involving your business vehicles

Your work van’s roof is dented by a fallen branch during an overnight storm. Commercial auto insurance will help pay for the repairs. This coverage is also usually required by law for business-owned vehicles.

Damage to your own property

A frozen pipe bursts and floods your daycare facility. Commercial property insurance can help with replacement or repair costs if your owned or leased property is damaged due to a covered event, such as a burst water pipe, fire, tornado or vandalism.

Do I need to provide a childcare center provider license to get insurance?

No, ERGO NEXT does not require proof of a daycare provider license for insurance. You will not need your license number to sign up, but a background check will be required for coverage.

How many children can I care for at once with this childcare insurance policy?

The number of children you’re allowed to care for depends on your license status, the licensing requirements in your state and the provider you have. ERGO NEXT insurance policies for daycare provide coverage for up to 50 children with a maximum 25:1 child-to-care-provider ratio.

I provide overnight child care. Am I still eligible for a daycare insurance policy with ERGO NEXT?

ERGO NEXT does not offer insurance to providers who care for children overnight. Field trips and swimming pools are also not covered. Always be sure to check your policy for a full list of excluded activities.

What’s the maximum number of hours I can care for children per day?

ERGO NEXT daycare insurance policies provide coverage for up to 15 hours of childcare each day.

What do I need to get an insurance quote online?

It takes about 10 minutes to get a business insurance quote online with ERGO NEXT. We’ll ask a few questions about your business — like what you do, your location, what type of events you sell at, how many people you employ and the vehicles you use for work. You’ll choose your options and see prices. If you like what you see, you can buy online and get a certificate of insurance (proof of insurance) on the spot.

How can I get a certificate of insurance (COI)?

Once you have a ERGO NEXT policy, you’ll have 24/7 access to proof of your insurance (also called a certificate of insurance, or COI) via web or app. Log in to your account, download your COI instantly or deliver it via email or text at no additional cost. Get unlimited certificates and add an additional insured as you need them.

How do you file an insurance claim with ERGO NEXT?

If you’re a policyholder, simply log in to your account and file a claim. We’ll contact you shortly to go over the details. Our support team is standing by to help.
